Ello ello,
So teed to go and chuck out some pots last saturday with a couple lads from work. The plan was to put in at east arm and head into one of the small rivers up towards the palmerston boat ramp at about 7am, set the pots on the outgoing, putt around on the low then check the pots on the incoming. Things were looking great, had the boat all done on the friday night, boys were keen and the weather was holding out. Got half way down the street and old mate in his xr6 behind me started flashing his lights..... I had no idea what he wanted, but pulled over only to be told that the two cushions that are usually strapped down had flown out...
The first thing i thought was is it going to be one of those days....
well after that we made our way to the ramp and then across to the river. the last time i crabbed this one would have been about 15 years ago in my old mans 13 foot tinny. All i could remember was that there is a decent rock bar out the mouth, negotiated that one fine, but little did i realise, the river has numerous rock bars which i was able to hit near everyone throughout the day.
So we set the pots and as we reached the bottom of the low got stuck in a 50 m section of the river.... not to worry, we had our rods and proceeded to flick at nothing and catch nothing for the next 2 hours. But as soon as that tide turned and we had enough water to move around freely the crabs just started to jump in.
we ended the day with 12 males, no females (does anyone know if this is the usual case this time of year?) and a bit of a bent prop, but nothing a stop in at the welders carnt fix.
till next time happy fishing all.

The Jennies head offshore to spawn. Never seem to catch many Jennies in the harbour. Once they mate they are good for several spawnings until they next moult. With the water temp high all year up here I think they must be spawning most of the year.
