G'day all
Firstly on behalf of our Club I will apologise for the last meeting being a bit unorganised, we ran into issues that had to be addressed at short notice & it impacted on the meeting starting late & the organisation dropping off on that night.
This Tuesday night DGFC club's monthly meeting is on again at the Darwin Ski club starting at approximately 1800 hours, no cost involved, kids welcome, so feel welcome to come down & have a cold beer & a yak.
A breakdown of this years Barra Classic will be covered, Tom Mc Cullough (also always does well at the Kakadu Clash) will go through some of the gear & tactics teams used this years classic & they will have the photos the kids took during the Classic junior day screening in the background.
We hope to be announcing the confirmation of a new tournament the Club intends to host this year & I believe a lot of the Forum members & local fishos will be very interested in it if it goes ahead & has enough local support.
As for the Barra Classic, Matt & a number of Forum members have displayed interest in entering a team in 2009 . Luckily or unluckily enough for our Club the Barra Classic has a huge interest accross Australia & we have the situation where a lot of teams are still trying to have their team involved. The good news is we have a great tournament at capacity numbers, the bad news is we have to continue to retain the interest of teams trying to gain entry.
As with last year what we have attempted to do each year is continue to review each year & attempt to involve some new teams. We screened the submissions last year & picked out a number of teams that provided good submissions who were then drawn as wild cards. As soon as positions became available from natural attrition the teams were contacted in order drawn out & given first choice to accept/reject the invite, a number of teams gained entry as a result.
At our drebrief last week we have come up with a similar system, so in a nut shell I would suggest any interested parties take the time to put together a detailed background on the proposed team (fishing abilities, muso's, sense of humour, wacko's, legends or whatever) & either forward the submission to Darwin Game Fishing Club at PO Box 41866 Cassuarina, 0811 & or better still attend one of the meetings & make yourself known to the Committee & issue your submission, good luck & I hope to catch you there Tuesday night.
PS If I am rostered off for the July meeting I intended to run a bait rigging session predominently for Sails/Marlin at the meeting. If we know there is enough interest we may organise a couple of sessions & or have a couple involved in showing different techniques on the one night, let us know if there is much interest on the topic & we will go from there, cheers Balls.
