i usually hook them though the side of the shell at the second/third last segment before the tail ie insert hook through third segment and come out the second. right on the side of the tail try to only put the hook through the shell and minimise damage to the flesh. this is why i prefer strong narrow gauge hooks. the seem to last a bit longer when you hook them this way . make sure that when you have attached the hook that curve of the hook is opposite to the curve of the cherabins tail. other wise they will flick the hook out of their tail.
hope this helps

I know blokes that use a big treble and the cherabins body lays between two hooks with the third hook standing straight up off its back , held on with a rubber band so you dont hook them at all.
With shrimps down south used to hook them through the tail right down near the end from underneath and come out the top. some times put 2 on facing each other so they constantly fight each other and move around more .

Try cooking lard (with animal fat) mushed in with dog biscuits in a stocking, leave over night. Can't go wrong, usually pull about 4-6 per pot and mainly the bigger one's around the 5-8inch specimens.
Then it's a hard call. Tucker or float them for barra???
