Hi all, was planning on heading to Mekkets this weekend for the first time. Does anyone know what the lowest water level is that you can get in and out of there? It's a 1.8m low on Saturday so don't think i want to be stuck in there!

Turn up to the Buff creek ramp two and a half hours after the posted low and wait for enough water to launch. Once you can get out of Buff you can get into Meckits, take it slow till you know where the channel is, not where you expect it to be by the way. Leave Meckits no later than three hours after the posted high to get back into Buff, depending on your boat of course.

Good question, i went out there last Sunday morning for the first time on the very neap ride of a 4m low to a 4.6m high. Getting in was tricky enough for me, the shallow water warning flashed a few times as it was under 1m. I would only be guessing you would need about 3.5 m to get in and out if you had a puntish type of boat. Hopefully someone else can enlighten us both.

1m is pretty deep in Shoal Bay. As others have said you will struggle with Buff creek well before you run out of water in the other places. The good thing about the lower tide is you will learn where the main channels are.

Thanks guys, I'm in a 6.6m boat so will only shoot in for a couple hours on high tide just for a look. Thanks for the info.
Yikes! 6.6m, I really hate to be a party popper but I might suggest that as a first timer to Shoal Bay you might prefer a) a much smaller boat, or b) South Gutter, I'll take you out in my 4.55 to give you an appreciation of how little water there is in Shoal Bay. If I'm going to Meckits by my self I take my 2.45.

You may be right but I've had that boat in some pretty small puddles, just need to take it slow and pick the right track.
I wasn't real keen on it but I have some southerners visiting and wanted to get them onto some barra. A mate told me that he managed a couple up there last week. I would prefer to head wide of channel point but the big tides aren't too inviting!
Does anyone know if Lee Point works for Macks on big tides?
PS - I've only been in Darwin for a year so still a greenhorn in the Harbour!

I cant see you getting too many barra in Mecketts on a spring high either. Low tides much better. Pick a deep hole and wait out the low or think of another plan i would suggest.
