upper upper victoria river : NT Barra

i escaped work for the day on sunday and trekked to a spot where i was told a few barra could be caught. it took a bit of finding but got there all the same. i was a bit scepticle about wether there would be any fish there, barra anyway. if you look on a map at where i am you will see why i doubted if there would be any fish there. i am working in a community called lajamanu which is about 500k's inland. but being on the top of the vic river we gave it a shot. we got there and there was just pools of shallow water about 100m long up this stretch of river. flicked it to foam for about 2 hours for zip then all of a sudden a 54cm, 78cm and a 77cm chrome as you get.
i was dumbfounded and it leads me to the questions to anyone who has been to the area, do the big tides reach there? we hav had minimal rain but it may have flowed over xmas they were pretty healthy looking fish. there isnt much if any floodplain country around can anyone out there shed any light on what goes on that far up river

I flew out there just before Xmas mate and got a good look at the upper Vic catchment. Spectacular country mate. Rivers cutting through the escarpments with waterfalls etc. You are very lucky to be able to explore that. The ESO there said there was some good fishing about an hours drive from there and his mates were out there fishing that day. I have absolutely no knowledge of the area or those sort of upper river spots. Maybe some of the Katherine crew might know a bit about fishing upper reaches. Sounds great cheers for the story.
