Hi Guys,
Im new here and just thought i would introduce myself, im Coxy a 25 year old bloke from Tindal/Katherine who works for the military. I have just finished doing up a 4m tinny.... thats a whole nother story . I plan on it having its mayden trip Saturday next week, my father in law is coming from Newcastle for 2 weeks so we can get into some fish...
It will be towed by a blue Mazda 2, small i know but im saving for another 4wd so it will have to do for now.
Im looking at launching at Larrakeyah boat ramp and was thinking seriously about fishing Woods inlet and the in close wrecks
I have been in Katherine for 2 years and it looks like im leaving come december and im still yet to get a legal barra. So im after all the hints and tips i can get my hands on! i have only been fishing twice since i have been here as iv'e been too busy hunting lol...
i have a fair range of lures and plastics at my disposal so i think i may be covered for those but any suggestions are very welcome!
Im just after whatever info i can get on Woods inlet and the wrecks, how and when to fish and with what...i have the NAFF mag and its good but doesnt give you all the good oil...
i may have put the pressure on myself a bit, giving myself only 2-3 months to get a legal baz but i will give a bl..dy good go!!!

Woods inlet and most of the harbour creeks hold good barra. I find either trolling the edges with shallow lures, Bombers, B52's x-raps or just unders works well. If that does'nt do the trick cast at the snake drains esp. the ones that appear to be holding bait. You cant really go wrong if you put in the time at this time of year.
Hope this helps.

Look for neaps building springs in the harbour, you want some movement to kick them into gear 4m's between a high and a low is a good figure.
Woods inlet is best like most of the harbour creeks on the falling tide, work yourself around gutters and small feeder creeks flicking amongst the colour change. Keep your eyes peeled for mullet milling the surface or prawns doing the mexican wave. Boofs are a really good sign your gonna get fish, where you hear or see them it clearly states the obvious. At dead low you gotta work a little harder, i drift the edges and use a paddle to work them as i dont own an electric motor, to be honest havent seen the need for one as of yet. I also only use the one lure that hardly fails me, classic just under in grey ghost colours, these range of hardbodies are great for working the flats as with smaller bombers X-raps and just under RMG's, ive caught fish on plastics but hardly use them as HB's work best for me with barbless hooks i might add. Your next window of oppurtunity is on the first of the incoming work the front of the creeks drift in with the tide once water pushes over the flat i usually push further up the creek and work insides of feeder creeks, in west arm there are some good deep sections with steep banks where i convert to trolling. The deeper holes are where the big girls hang out....hope that may help coxy...over and out.

Mate i use to launch there years ago and its or was a very tricky ramp take some chocks for your wheels. It was very slippery and steep in those days a few cars went in there, hope its changed.

Thanks Meter seeker!! Thats exactly the sort of info im after....
would yo u happen to have a pic of the grey gost colour classic ??as i cant find it in their colour chart
Once again mate Cheers
Thats the colour coxy but not the lure. The just unders are about 60mm in length with a shallow running bib. You'll see them usually on the top rack in the classic lure section.
Good luck...

I am an "x" Katherineite and you will catch a legal Barra in that river Along with the lures, try catching some Cherrabun, dropping them into some deep snags and drink beer
If that fails (it wont), keep your ears open for when the Roper river is first rising (depends how early you get build up rain) and head down to the "Bar" and cast the up-stream section of the crossing

My advice would be to fish the high tide a woods inlet in some of the holes that are directly out from the drains (use livebait if possible). Then at about half tide run over to west arm or little west arm and cast sp's. I think the trick is to get a really heavy soft-plastic so you can do ultra long casts, that way you don't spook the fish by driving your boat too close.
Note: I'm no harbour expert but this is what has worked for me.

if your still up this way just fish off the rock wall next to the boat ramp have caught some really good barra up to 85cm off that wall along with queenies mackies travelly and a coral trout. just use bleeding mullet classics 120 +3 or rmgs 90 the ones that only dive about 10cm under in gold or in the green and gold you want about a 1.5 to 2 meter low for barra. to me it's one of the best land spots in darwin if you can get down there or no someone that can get you down there.
