bloke I work with snapped this yesterday

Just curious if any of the raaf guys know why they dump fuel in the ocean if not for emergency purposes?

Are they dumping or is it just the vortex caused by going thru moist air?

i was in winnellie yesterday and a couple flew over the warehouse i was in. the whole shed shook, the wire mesh holding the roof insulation vibrated like it was about to collapse..

I still dont know why they are doing it from Darwin when they are based at Katherine which is about 2 seconds by fast jey from here

dunno nomad Mike called it for a fuel dump he's been a keen photographer up here for years http://www.stormscapesdarwin.com/ the vortex thingo would disappear pretty quickly I assume, I'm sure there's a logical reason if it is fuel?

Reduce weight for landing - wheels are down and it looks like has flaps down at first stage.
Not RAAF though.

That looks to be one of the Indonesian SU-30s or Singaporean F-15s that are in town for Pitch Black.
Tindal is most likely playing home to our fighters therefore no room for the international guests.

SP84 is prob right, that plane doesn't look like a Hornet - the tail fins are too ' vertical'.

Not a fuel dump,been watching them all week and seen this too many times for them to be dumping fuel ,at that altitude???

Not sure about here, but I found an article in the US that says the FAA mandates a minimum altitude of (only) 2000 feet!; presumably the military would have exemptions for that as well if needed.

Not sure but doesnt aviation fuel basically evaporate in the air when dumped. Where was the jet when the shot was taken and how high up?

Got a mate working at the airport yesterday. He said there was an emergency landing by one of the Indo or Russian planes. I believe they're flying the same ones. It was one that uses the chutes (or did) on landing.
