Thursday Friday Saturday at shady

Post by balou »

My mate and I just spent the last 3 days at shady. We put in at 6.15 am on Thursday and there were already inpatient clowns at the ramp trying to push in and double up at the ramp.

Thursday was the best day out there for us with hardly any swells at the turn of the low. The threadies and barras came on the chew for about 1.5 hours and we saw 20-30 big threadies land 15 Barras landed.I believe 2 meteries 118 and 104 were caught. We got a 71 cm and 85 cm and 7 threadies for the session. It was mayhem with boats going everywhere but most kept their distance when someone hooked up. Some idiot ran over the top of my line when I was fighting a big fish. Green lures did all the damage.

We had enough of the crowds by 2pm and went wide looking for big goldies. The reef at the front of the wild man was strangely dead. We headed back dissapointed and camped at the entrance to sampan with a cool breeze going all night.

Friday morning saw some big swells hit the mouth of sampan . It was pretty much kaos was people trawling everywhere. It was hard going as it was a washing machine out there and the water was so muddy. Once again at the bottom of the tide the threadies and barras came on but this time for about 30 mins. We picked up 3-4 nice threadies out the front but we decided to head in closer to get away from the crowds. My mate picked up his pb of 95cm. In the excitement it bounce off the gunnel while being measured without a decent photo taken. All good it was going back anyway. All fish hooked on gold colour big ass b52 while the green colour didn't get a hit.

We headed out to a reef about 15km out to chase some jewies. It was slow going punching into the big swells but worth the effort was 3 jewies landed. A monster 132 cm and 120 and 100 all on barra gear. We lost 3 others because it was so friggin rough out there. All good , great fun on light gear.

Saturday had even bigger swells at the entrance. We only managed 2 big threadies for this session. We saw some fish caught towards the low but the window of bites that we saw on the previous 2 days never eventuacted . We called it quits about 2pm and headed for the ramp which it was very low. In some parts it was only 600 deep about 200m from the ramp. A couple of the bigger rigs struggled to get out.

It was a great 3 days fishing and meet afew FFF members.

Great report mate, lots of detailed info. Funny how pics can be deceiving, it looks calm as in those jewie pics. Bad luck on the Goldies, I've never failed to bag out on em around there, all on Gulps too,
