Possession Limits Change for Kakadu NP

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Possession Limits Change for Kakadu NP

Post by tristan.sloan »

Please be aware that similar to the Mary and Daly River Fish Management Zones Kakadu now has a possession limit of three Barramundi with a maximum size limit of 90cm for Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon.

This came into affect on the 5th of Feb.

They should include the Darwin area too - on a shoal bay trip late last year I saw a guy neck 2 in the high 90's and then blow me down if he did the same thing to a 104....

Happens more than most people think as its not talked about as they know the public back leash.

I wonder what the justification is behind this latest change. Not like there is a scarce resource issue going on here.

Minister Hunt made the announcement on the 5th of February...except someone in Kakadu forgot to tell the fishermen.

No worries. I don't think many people keep more than 3 each, do they?

Plenty do. Most people complain that if they are gonna travel that far that they want to take there bag limit of fish in retrebution for cost out layed. I take my bag from there so i dont kill fish closer to home that are under more pressure. The south would see one 10th the pressure of every where else. I guess it is now a good excuse to make it 3 barra state wide.

That media release says nothing about the changes. One needs to delve into the management plan to find the clause on page 174
10.7.17 Subject to:
(a) any decision by the Board under Section 10.7.18;
(b) the conditions specified in Sections 10.7.19 and 10.7.21;
(c) any determination made by the Director under r.12.35 of the EPBC
Regulations; or
(d) any licensing system that may be introduced to manage recreational fishing in
the park,
recreational fishing may be carried out in accordance with:
(e) Northern Territory fisheries laws (at the time of preparation of this plan the,
Fisheries Act), including possession and size limits (to the extent capable of
operating concurrently with this plan); and
(f) Northern Territory possession and size limits in the Daly and Mary rivers (to
the extent capable of operating concurrently with this plan)

As eluded to above they havent really made this well known

Who are we to argue with the worlds best minister?

Jokes aside, why don't they just make the 3 barra Territory wide? At least that is plausible to enforce. That's a good feed and a bit of stock for the freezer.
