Invasive and feral fish species

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Invasive and feral fish species

Post by tristan.sloan »

Hi Guys,

This Oscar was removed from a pond at the Botanic Gardens last week.

Please if you see what you suspect is a feral or invasive fish species call the Fishwatch Hotline on 1800 891 136.

Invasive non-native fish species are a major threat to the pristine aquatic environments of the top end.

Did they finally get rid of the ferals at Fogg dam ?
most people have no idea of the damage ferals can do without knowingly harming the environment. they just cant bring themselves to kill that tiny little aquarium fish that is now an overgrown monster so they 'set it free' into the waterway. next thing, native species are being wiped out

As long as they catch the bl..dy things and whack them on the head I don't care Matt!.....The last thing we need in the NT is a outbreak of exotic species like QLD is currently suffering with Tilapia

Nomad, they conducted quite an extensive eradication program on the Siamese fighting fish in Fogg Dam. It is not sure how many (if any) are left as it is almost impossible to completely remove a fish species once it is introduced.

Was looking in Kedron Brook in suburban Brisbane last year, full of big tilapia, what appeared to be cichlids, mullet, and big eels. I almost went for the fishing rod, almost ...

They need to put some barra in there to clean out the pest fish :D

Yes, and they now have a trophy threadfin fishery, these fish were almost non-existent in Moreton Bay 30 years ago.
