Re: hahahahaha oooops
Probably no insurance cos he drive out onto a mud flat with an incoming tide and being a beach it's classed as a road and if beach was closed which is says it was it means closed rd so insurance is void .

I didnt think that was right so i rang my insurer AAMI.mippa wrote:yeah your right doug has to be a registered 4x4 track to have insurance.

He said that the vehicle is covered anywhere in Australia.
I know several people who have done that to their vehicles and been covered.
Always best to check your PDS. Maybe TIO doesnt cover it.
Either way both blokes are tools. The owner for no insurance and the driver . He comes from Pt Stephens (the home of Stockton Beach where you can drive on 25kms of the beach)

Re: hahahahaha oooops
Your car won't be covered on a closed road ...
Anywhere else I agree not sure on Mippa comment but closed roads say in floods and roads have been closed no insurance.
Beach was closed access so I presume would mean closed rd??
Not a lot of people realise that a beach like gunn point Finniss beaches are classed as roads .

True Doug
its always been a touchy point re breaking the law. ie if you're p...ed and crash, you break the law and insurance is wiped.
But, if you run a red light or dont give way, you are also breaking the law but you are covered.
all comes down to the fine print in the PDS
Yeah the beach i mentioned was gazetted as a road. same as fraser island
In summer, there would be hundreds of cars all along the beach. i remember seeing rangers and cop cars with radars checking the speed limit on the beach.
The bloke i spoke to said a very similar thing happened on manly beach (shelly beach near the ramp) last year. Cars aren't permitted on the beach but they paid him out.
I hate insurance but id hate to not have it

Re: hahahahaha oooops
dunno ive never had to claim but when i wes living in WA for a few years it had to be a registered 4x4 track or it wasnt covered. one of those little fine print things they dont tell you when you sign up. like hail damages or up here cyclone damage. best to ask your insurer.

Re: hahahahaha oooops
Again it depends on your insurer.
You are covered for cyclone damage if you take precautions as per the pds.
Over the past 40 odd years, I've probably had 25 claims or more from a total loss (car got stolen, boat stolen) down to broken rods under household insurance.
My mate is over 60 years old and has never claimed either.
Always get any info from insurers in writing. they have a habit of forgetting things
